In Loving Memory of a Special Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, Brother In-law, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend


Our beloved Chester Louis Range was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was surrounded by family at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on August 2, 1946, in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Ozark Range Sr and late Johnnie Pleas Younger. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Erica Range and brother Ozark Range Jr.


Chester graduated from Broad Street High School, Greenwood, Mississippi class of 1963. He joined the United States Air Force in January 1965 as an Aircraft Control and Warning Operator. His service tenure was three years and ten months, of which included one year of Foreign Service in the Pacific Air Force. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Chester was honorably discharged as an Air Force Sergeant.


In 1974, he married Minnie Upton Range in Columbus, Ohio. Out of their union was one child: Brian Range. Chester was a Truck Driver for over fifteen years and also employed at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.


He played basketball in high school and at Tupelo Junior College. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan who faithfully rep the black and gold and supported the Steelers Nation. Joys in life were spending time with family, especially his granddaughters, watching sports and playing Bid Whist.


Chester is survived by daughter Renee Watkins (Ronald Sr) (Blythewood, SC) and, sons Efraim Henderson and Brian Range (Tami), siblings Paul Younger (Los Angeles, CA), Zita Moses (Columbus, OH) and Robin Range (Indianapolis, IN), and grandchildren Lizzie Range, Angelo Kent, Ronald Watkins Jr (Nia), Tianna Watkins, Acacia Jones, Honesty Range and Sophia Range and great-grandchildren A’Marien Johnson, Alaya Jones, Ronald Watkins III (Tripp) and soon to come Nathaniel Watkins. He leaves to cherish his memory to a host of brother and sister in-laws, aunts, nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and loving friendships that were established over the years.
