Sister Elizabeth Cox Burgess was born to George Leax Cox Sr. and Lillie Mae Cox in Morgan County, Alabama on November 1, 1964. She went home to be with the Lord, having a true "Independence Day," July 4, 2014. She was amongst one sister Debra and five brothers, Rand, George aka June bug, Ronnie aka Romeo, David aka David Copperfield, and Robert aka Baby Rob. During her childhood, she lived in Michigan and then came to Columbus, OH. At the age of 16, she married John Lee Burgess Sr. and shortly thereafter was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. From this union were born John Jr., Enoch, Yolanda, Joshua, and Jessica. Sis. Liz attended The Way of Holiness Church under the leadership of Chief Presiding Bishop D. Christine C. McGee. Affectionately know as Ann, Sis. Liz was know for her humor, cooking, and her servant hood mentality, volunteering for many years at the Fruit of the Vine Food Pantry. Over the years, she battled breast cancer - and by the grace of God - she had victory. She was a fighter and never lost hope in her faith. Sis. Liz was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunty, and grandmother. Her family will remember her as Ann, mommy, "Mo"' Momma-Mia, Boo- Boo, Aunt Ann, Ti-Ti, and Sis. Liz. Sis. Liz was preceded in death by her parents George Leax Cox Sr. and Lillie Mae Cox, and brother Randy. She leaves her legacy to her husband John, sons, John Jr., Enoch, Joshua Amber, daughters, Yolanda, and Jessica Joseph Scrutchen, all of Columbus; brothers George Dionne Cox, Romeo Laurie Cox, David Yolanda Cox, all of Columbus, and Alabama; special friend & "brother" Duncan Flowers, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren, and a whole host of nieces and nephews. Some Interesting Facts: One of Sis. Liz's favorite songs was "Tonight is the Night," by Betty Wright. She loved caramel popcorn, chocolate milk, watermelon, fried potatoes and onions, chicken livers, baked potatoes, strawberries, catfish nuggets, and her famous baked beans. She enjoyed watching Matlock, The Guiding Light, In the Heat of the Night, and Snapped. On July 3rd, Sis. Liz was down in her spirit. Yolanda played "Break Every Chain" by Tasha Cobbs, which really lifted Liz's spirit. When Liz left to be with the Lord, Yolanda's siblings requested that she play the song for Liz, which she did. Yolanda told her, "Mommy, Your Chains are Broken - You're Free!"
