Ethelene Workman Hill, age 74, was welcomed home on March 14, 2025, at home. She was the widow of Kenneth Lloyd Hill, Sr. They married in 1975 and remained that way.
Ethelene was born in Pike County, KY, to her beloved mother, Margie Hensley. She graduated from Northwest High School in Portsmouth, OH. Inspired by her amazing physics teacher, she spent most of her life as a physics, calculus, and chemistry professor and also worked for a short time in the US patent office.
She enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, discussing scientific principles and possibilities, and studying the Bible—especially with her ladies’ group. After spiritual pursuits, she and her husband loved family, connection, education, and helping people and children above all else. Their home was always open. She was the “mom” in various neighborhoods/communities, and she helped raise multiple foster children. In addition, she helped hundreds and hundreds of students—many of whom are underrepresented—flourish in STEM fields or reach other education (career) related goals. She will be remembered as one who always gave, always supported, always encouraged, and always hoped. She was the embodiment of love.
She is survived by her children, Kendallene Hill (grandchildren Michael, Aaliyah, Thomas, Nicole, Jonathan; great-grandchildren baby Leilani and baby Karsyn), Marjorie Langston (Phillip, granddaughter Journe), Kenneth Hill, Jr. (Katherine; grandchildren Kamiyah; Elodie; Kenneth Hill, III; and Zion), and foster daughter Lena Law (Donnie Porter, grandchildren Treyvor, Tiayjoel, Takia, Trejon, Tamerra, Tyler She is also survived by four of her twenty-three siblings (Dickie, Nikki, Carol, Rosemary) and countless nieces, nephews, etc. Her beloved husband, Kenneth; mother, Margie; and 19 siblings passed prior to her.
