George Smith Jr.
July 15, 1930 — July 13, 2017
George Smith Jr. was born in Covington, GA to the late Mr. George Smith Sr. and Mrs. Clara Bell Grier. He attended various grade schools around Newton County as a young boy and growing up he enjoyed fishing and hunting as his favorite hobbies.
Later in life, George married Vernice E. White Smith and to their union were 5 boys and 4 girls born.
George was preceeded in death by his ex-wife Vernice E. White Smith, his parents Mr. George Smith Sr. and Mrs. Clara Bell Grier, his daughter Brenda Joyce Smith, his son Kenneth George Smith, four brothers, Lenny Thomas, Benny Grier, James Grier, R.B. Grier, and four sisters, Inez Thomas, Annie Pearle Hammonds, Georgia Mae Grier, and Cornelius Benford.
To remember him he leaves four sons; Mr. Stanley and Linda (deceased) Flemister, Mr. Anthony Smith, Mr. Ricky Smith, and Mr. Steven Smith. Three daughters Mr. Joe and Neta Flemister Bigby, Rev. Gerald and Felecia Smith Terrell, and Mr. Robert and Kressie Smith Webb. Twenty-two grandchildren, and thirty-three great-grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Mary Sue Hubbard, several brothers and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss him dearly.
George will be laid to rest Friday, July 21, 2017 at 2 PM at Eastlawn Cemetery, 1340 Woodland Avenue, Columbus, OH 43219
