James Lewis Martin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Martin, was born in Laurel, Mississippi. He was brought to Hamilton, Ohio at a very early age by his mother and grandmother. As a young window, Mr. Martin?s mother made many sacrifices and worked untiringly to educate her son who attended the public schools in Hamilton, Ohio and later when the family moved to Columbus, Ohio, he continued his studies and is a graduate of the public schools of this city. MR. Martin?s unusual ability in the field of music was recognized early in his life. While pursuing his musical course in high school, he received an award for outstanding Tenor in the Music Competitive Contest for the State of Ohio. He has had additional training at the Ohio State University under the eminent Dr. Louis B. Diereks and Dale B. Gilliand, at Wilberforce University under Mrs. Mildred Ellis and Mrs. Terry, under the renowned Katherine P. Ray, founder and director of the Children?s School of Music and Culture, Brooklyn, New York and under Peter J. Wilhousky Master Glass in Choral Conducting in Concert Hall, New York City. Mr. Martin is noted for his inimitable ability as a Tenor Soloist and former director of several musical organizations. At presently, he is the Director of Senior Choir of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Martin has dedicated his life and musical talent for cause of Christianity.
