Joseph "Joey" S.L. Woods Jr.

Joseph (Joey) Sylvester Lewis Woods, Jr., age 62, became an angel of the Lord on June 1, 2022 at Majestic Care of Whitehall.  He was born on September 28, 1959 in Montgomery, West Virginia to Beatrice Evangeline and Joseph Sylvester Lewis Woods, Sr.  He spent the early years of his life in Montgomery and Toledo, Ohio and in 1972 the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio.

Joey attended Southmoor Junior High and South High School.  He worked as a cook at the Training Institute of Central Ohio (TICO) for the Ohio Department of Youth Services. He also worked as a cook at Lindey’s restaurant.

Joey’s first love was playing football.  He played for the Mohawk Raiders where he met his life-long friend Debbie Wood.  His favorite team was the Cleveland Browns until the family got a color television and he became a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan because he liked their colors! Joey also enjoyed playing cards, chess and checkers.  Most importantly, Joey had a deep love for God.

Joey was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Evangeline and Joseph Sylvester Lewis Woods, Sr.; his sisters Jacqueline (Jackie) Yvonne McNeal and recently deceased Donna Maxine Woods-Peake; his brother Gregory Allen Woods, Sr. and his special cousin Darren Wood, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, brother, Daniel (Teresa) Woods; brother-in-law Jeff McNeal; sister-n-law Deidra Woods; and special cousin Frances Rembert; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family is inviting friends and family for a Memorial Service at Edwards Funeral Service, 1166 Parsons Ave, Columbus on Friday June 10 from 2 PM - 4 PM. Gathering from 2 - 3; with service beginning at 3 PM. For the safety of everyone the family requests all visitors to please wear a face mask.
