Lawrence R. Laws

Lawrence Laws was born to Robert P. Laws & Anne Pauline Martin on Wednesday morning, June 28, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio at 6:14 a.m. – “Buckeye City” time. The younger of two children, Lawrence was raised in the historical Mt. Vernon neighborhood and educated through the Columbus City School System.

At the young age of 10, Lawrence became an Apprentice and learned the trade of Shining Shoes. He would later use that teaching to become a full fledged Boot-black and the owner of two Shoe Shine Businesses. He was known all over the city as "The Shoe Doctor" because he could bring any pair of shoes back to life! He truly enjoyed his craft.

Lawrence loved being around family, traveling, being outdoors and listening to music, especially Jazz and he had a record collection that most could only dream of. He was a true Renaissance man that was always on the move and never stood in one spot for too long. He reminded us constantly that life should be lived to the fullest and that FAMILY was everything!

On the afternoon of August 22, 2022, Lawrence departed this life surrounded by his family. He was 72 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Pauline, his paternal grandmother Stella Marie Malcolm and his brother, Robert Laws.

Lawrence is survived by former wife April Laws with whom he had daughter Tawanda Laws (Jamal, Lovely, Paris, Karl, LaJuan & Robert); daughters Melissa Roberts and Karriejoi Coit; former wife Jewel Harris-Laws with whom he had son Lawrence Laws Jr. and wife Katona; a maternal aunt, Nancy Carruthers; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, close friends and loved ones.

The family invites you to join them for Lawrence's funeral service on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Trevitt New Life Ministries, 440 Trevitt Street, Columbus, Ohio 43203. Visitation will be from 10 AM - 11 AM, with the service to follow at 11 AM.
