Mattie was born in a small town near Birmingham Alabama on January 16, 1950. She proceeded to join her Mother - Eloise Gary, daughter Lationa Banner and her grandson Agentae Banner in Heaven. She is survived by three daughters: Lorita Banner, Diane Johnson and Diana Lockett; 5 grand-children: Teman Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Terriel Lockett, Olivia Lockett; Robert Lindsey and one great grand child: Jasniah Johnson.

Our Mother, as well as your friend Mattie Mae Banner was one of the strongest warriors life can offer. Examples include, but are not limited to: working at Buckeye Steel from 1973 - 1991, in which she received an award for Outstanding Service. Although she was severely injured while working one would never know. Due to the upbeat energy she displayed, as well as her beautiful smile. Her girls: Lorita Banner, Diane Johnson, Diana Lockett and Lationa Banner obtained great strength and courage by watching this wonderful lady navigate life with pride and joy. Our Mom was never afraid to speak her mind, as she did so to protect her girls. Some of her hobbies were thrift shopping, gardening, cooking and many other endeavors. Our Mother loved the Lord and she knew that God loved her. She was a 28 year member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual guidance of Dr. G. Thomas Turner Sr.

A going home service will be held in the Chapel of Edwards Funeral Service, 1166 Parsons Avenue, Columbus, Ohio on Saturday July 18th, 2015 at 2:00 pm where family will greet friends from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
