Michael Ramey was born in 1948, died June 12, 2022. He grew up on Center Street in Portsmouth. His father was Dennis Ramey and his mother was Louise Ramey, nee Weinman. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1966 and earned his BS from Ohio University in 1970. He majored in education and minored in botany and zoology.
Michael served his beloved country in the Army Reserves. He was a long time resident in the Clintonville area of Columbus. He had a keen sense of humor and conveyed his good spirits to those fortunate to be around him.
In the early days of video recorders and cassettes, Michael founded Video Movie Classics, a video cassette rental store. At one time he operated five stores. It was perfect for him as he loved movies of all genres.
In addition to movies, Michael loved music, gardening, pets and was an avid sports fan He was proud to have won the family Fantasy Football League trophy in 2021. More than anything Michael loved his Knox County tree farms. He entered into a partnership and planted many walnut trees in 1973. He would glow when he spoke of the farms.
Michael worked for Chemical Abstracts Service as account representative in the Sales department of the CAS Marketing Division responsible for major accounts that included Union Carbide, Procter & Gamble, Kodak, American Cynamid, and Dow Chemical. Michael gained sales experience working for McNeil Labs in pharmaceutical sales. He was with CAS for 28 years and retired from there in 2012.
He is survived by Jennifer Ramey his wife of 50 years, his step brother Jim Cooper of McDermott Ohio and several other relatives. He is also survived by his many friends.
Michael will be missed by all who knew him. Those wishing to donate in Michael’s name may do so to the ASPCA or Shawnee State University.
