Richard “Dick” Lee Haines, born January 19, 1934, in Piketon, OH. He passed on December 5, 2022, at Marion General Hospital, at 10:30 AM.
“Dick” married Lillian “Rose” (Berry) Haines on February 3, 1956 at Byhalia Methodist Church in Byhalia, OH, she preceded him in death. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Marion Lions Club, Prospect Lions Club, Marion City Bicycle Club and was an Army veteran that served as a photographer at the Pentagon in DC. He Pastored at several Methodist Churches and served as Youth Councilor at Epworth for 13 years. He worked at Hughes Studio for 40 years. Volunteering at Station 39 up until he passed.
He was an outstanding Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. A man of many talents. At 38 to spend more family time he learned how to ride a Unicycle and joined the Paul Fox Unicycle Club. At 43 he started walking the Highwire with his son. They started performing as the Haines Family Circus. That led to fire eating and knife throwing, the latter getting him inducted into the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame. He didn't slow down there, at 60 he added stilt walking as various characters at events around the country until 81.
He is survived by his children: David Sr. (Dixie) Haines, Carol Haines, Wayne (Angela) Haines, grandchildren: Carl Smith, David Lee Haines, Jr.,
Mary Burgess, Abby Claborn, Richard Haines, Michelle (Kris) Groth, Tony Mills, James (Arika) Skeens, Sam Haines, Josh Haines, and Eli Moore,
great grandchildren: Diesera Wells, Memfis Blair, Isabella Smith, Benjamin Haines, Kaden Burgess, Brittany Hill, Cyrus Brennan, Devin Claborn, Ava Claborn, Alaina Claborn, Chloe Elizabeth Groth, Neveah Rose Groth, Momo Groth, Sapphire Skeens, Arya Skeens and Lyanna Skeens.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Violet (Stratton) Haines and his wife Lillian Rose Haines.
Visitation will be held on Sunday December 11, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 East Center Street. Marion, OH 43302. Funeral Services will be held Monday December 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the church with military honors provided by Marion County United Veterans Council. Followed by Lunch. Internment Byhalia Cemetery, 21199 Lingrell Road. West Mansfield, OH 43358.
