Ruth Belle Coffin Brown was born on October 6, 1931, in Maryville, Tennessee to Roscoe E. and Julia Belle Griffith Coffin. She departed this life on October 12, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a longtime dedicated and beloved member of Centenary United Methodist Church. During her life she served her church in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher, Youth Coordinator, Choir Member, Food Pantry Worker, and Communion Steward. Ruth was an Instructional Aide for the Columbus Public Schools for 35 years, and touched the lives of many students and their families, she retired in 2005. She shared her faith in God and ministered to all who would listen to the very end.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, George H. Coffin, Sr., Howard E. Coffin, Leonard T. Coffin and Lloyd W. Coffin; and two sisters, Ilene Simpson and Mintia L. Edwards; two nephews, Leonard Simpson and Tovarre Simpson. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories son, Byron D. (Betty) Brown; daughter, Marva L. (Gerald) Chisolm; and son, Terrence A. Brown; Grandchildren, Jason D. (Arrita) Brown; Shammikka J. Chisolm; Justin D. Brown; Preston D. (Krystie) Chisolm; Janelle D. (Deondre) Brown-Dingess; and Timo A. Brown; Nine Great-Grand Children, with another expected in May; God-daughter Melanie Carmichael; Special Friends, Martha Wickliffe and Helen Green; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2048 Denune Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43211, where her family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service.
