LANDGRAF, William Brandau of Newport RI, died peacefully on January 21 in Dublin, Ohio. Mr. Landgraf was born in East Providence on September 6, 1911. He was the son of Gustav and Sylvia Landgraf.
Mr. Landgraf?s wife, Lilla Peg and oldest son William H. both predeceased him. He is survived by sons John B. Landgraf of Ridgewood NJ, Douglas M. Landgraf of Powell Ohio and Karl D. Landgraf of Newport, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Landgraf was a 1934 graduate of RISD where he subsequently taught mechanical drawing in the evenings and began his career with General Electric Co as a design and development engineer. He left Rhode Island to join the US Navy during WWII, serving in Washington DC with the industry cooperation unit screening businesses seeking US Navy contracts.
After the war, Mr. Landgraf returned to GE, relocating and raising his family in Cleveland Ohio. He coached his boys in both Little League baseball and WMCA swimming. After 42 years of service Bill retired, moving with Peg to Rhode Island, where they lived in Newport becoming avid sailors of Narragansett Bay. Bill and Peg continued sailing until his 80th year. Additionally he was an avid woodworker and landscape painter. He remained in Newport until January of this year. Funeral services will be private.
